Two already declared for Proctor’s seat

More than a year away from Election Day – 2012, Historic City News is already following early activity in local elections affecting St. Johns County voters.

One race of local interest will be the District 20 State Representative seat; held since 2004 by St. Augustine resident William L. Proctor. Elected to four consecutive terms in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010, 78 year-old Proctor has reached his term limit; but, he could run again after sitting out one two-year election.

Earlier this week, Representative Proctor was the guest speaker during the St. Johns County Young Republican club meeting where he gave a legislative “wrap-up” to those in attendance.

Club President and Second Vice President of the St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee, Roy Alaimo, reported that, after Proctor spoke, he noted that he would be supporting Republican candidate Michael Alan Davis for his seat in the State House.

Davis, whose office is located at 3940 Lewis Speedway in St. Augustine, has been in the news recently as the leader of the “Home Again St. Johns” initiative; addressing both the housing and food needs of the homeless in our community.

Lee Owen, representing the Davis campaign team, was in communication with Historic City News this week indicating that Davis is looking forward to meeting “everyone he possibly can” to introduce himself and spread his message.

According to documents on file with the Florida Department of Elections, Davis filed his notices on April 12, 2011; at which time he appointed local accountant Todd Neville as his campaign treasurer.

Four days earlier, on April 8th, St. Augustine attorney Terry J. Shoemaker announced his intentions to run for Proctor’s open seat. Shoemaker, who is also a Republican, resides at 2513 West Caparina Drive in St. Augustine. He appointed Gay Durand as his Campaign Treasurer.
