Historic City News reporters listened for just over one hour yesterday to an impassioned presentation by four representatives of two Jacksonville public relations and advertising firms who say that they are “excited” about St. Augustine’s potential for “economic development”.

The more they talked, the more some residents in attendance questioned why they were making their presentation before a workshop supposedly called to discuss the city’s 450th commemoration efforts.

At several points in the presentation, when it seemed to overreach the topic, one regular commission observer remarked that, to him, this was “the same BS we heard from First America Foundation” — referring to the failed private foundation previously hired by the City to manage the commemoration events.

The first issue to be clarified was who was actually proposing to do business with the City — originally announced as a proposal from the Dalton Agency, as Project Manager Dylan Rumrell made the introductions, it became clear that three of the four speakers were actually from another agency; Infinity Global Solutions, LLC.

Jim Dalton did not make the presentation; a partner in the agency, Michael R. Munz, was the only one to address the commissioners from that firm.

The president of Infinity Global Solutions, LLC, Jim Gilmore, did present for their company, as well as Rumrell and Lindsey (Ballas) Kimball; Senior Vice President of Economic Development.

Both the mayor and Commissioner Leanna Freeman questioned Munz and Gilmore; seeking clarification on exactly “who they are representing” and exactly “what relationship” they want to propose to the City. After the First America fiasco, it appears that they were more inclined to slow down and ask questions up front and in the public eye.

The next issue raised by Mayor Boles was what kind of business the companies were actually in — there were concerns as to the vendor’s role as an advertising agency proposing to managing four signature events.

Historic City News did some checking.
