Priscilla Proctor has notified local Historic City News reporters that Flagler College will host the Women’s History Project from Thursday, March 8th through Thursday, April 7th.
The Women’s History Project includes over twenty separate events and speaker presentations honoring women and their importance to American history, politics, athletics, arts and culture.
The college will celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8th with a program by award-winning producer and director Louise Vance. Featured will be the nationally-premiered PBS film, “Seneca Falls,” demonstrating the relevance to contemporary society of women gaining the right to vote.
Keynote speakers for the Women’s History Project include Olympic Gold Medalist Nancy Hogshead-Makar, author Masha Hamilton and award-winning novelist Connie May Fowler.
Nancy Hogshead-Makar is an Olympic Gold Medalist, former President of the Woman’s Sports Foundation and current legal advisor. She is one of the nation’s foremost speakers and advocates for Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, particularly regarding gender equity in intercollegiate sports.
Masha Hamilton is the author of four acclaimed novels, most recently “31 Hours,” and founder of two world literacy programs: the Camel Book Drive and the Afghan Women’s Writing Project.
Connie May Fowler is an award-winning novelist, memoirist and screenwriter. Her most recent novel is “Clarissa Burden Learned to Fly.” Her work has been translated into 18 languages and is published worldwide.
All events are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
