Historic City News readers looking for a bargain on a used airplane may have found their golden opportunity as Florida Governor Rick Scott moves to fulfill a campaign promise to sell two state-owned airplanes.
The Florida Department of Management Services was instructed today to sell the aircraft — news being touted as one of the first of many steps Governor Scott is taking to reduce government spending.
Accordingly, sealed bids will be opened at 2:00 p.m., on February 9, 2011, for the 2003 Cessna Citation Bravo and the 2000 King Air 350.
“The privilege of using a state-owned aircraft is an unnecessary burden to taxpayers, especially when lower-cost travel options exist,” said Governor Scott. “As elected officials it is our responsibility to utilize the most affordable options for official business, and I do not believe state-owned airplanes are the best option.”
$2.4 million is currently budgeted for the operation of the airplanes.
