According to figures included in The St. Augustine Report, results, so far, from 404 survey responses at sites around the city and from focus groups, show strong support for reopening the pool.
Professor Casey Welch will outline the results obtained in the research project before commissioners at their regular meeting Monday night. The commission and senior staff will use that information to help judge how best to proceed if and when the City receives any money from St. Johns County.
Former Mayor George Gardner tells Historic City News reporters that respondents support adding more activities at the Galimore Center as well as providing greater accessibility and management from within the community.
In another presentation Monday night, the City Commission will consider a settlement offer from the St. Johns County Recreation Department to discontinue its management of the center and pool under an existing Inter-local Agreement.
City Manager John Regan will present the county offer of $400,000.
Survey forms continue to be distributed this month to city utility customers with their water bills.
If you are planning to attend — the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
