As an administrative item Monday night, the City of St. Augustine City Commission will award a Certificate of Appreciation to Jeremy Marquis of Halback Design Group for his volunteer contributions and work on the Andrew Young Crossing Monument.

In a presentation March 28th, Marquis admitted to the City Commission that he “didn’t know who Andrew Young was”, when he first started the project.

Marquis said that his generation and those to follow might not know the significance of the King and St. George Street intersection or Andrew Young’s participation, were it not for the proposed marker.

Marquis said that as he watched and studied Pastor Young’s video, “Crossing in St. Augustine” he came away with a sense of need to memorialize the events.

If you are planning to attend — the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
