Historic City News learned from Public Information Officer Mark Samson, that a 42 year-old homeless man stabbed a Newcomb Street resident last night outside of the south entrance to the Lightner Museum on Granada Street.
St. Augustine police officers responded to an E-911 call from a passerby at 10:09 p.m.
The victim of a stabbing, 41 year-old Jerry McCoy of St. Augustine, reported to the police that he had been stabbed in the back during a fight with another man over his ex-girlfriend. The suspect fled the scene.
McCoy’s girlfriend helped him down the steps at the rear of the Lightner Museum and flagged down the passerby for assistance.
St. Johns County Rescue transported the victim to Flagler Hospital for medical evaluation — McCoy was later airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville; where he is listed in serious condition.
The man who police say attacked McCoy was Michael Henry Brown; who listed his residence address as “99 King Street” — which is the address of the post office.
Officers with the St. Augustine Police Department located Brown a short time later on the north green of the Castillo De San Marcos National Monument.
Brown was identified and questioned; then arrested for Aggravated Battery with a weapon.
Police transported Brown to the St. Johns County Detention Facility where he is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.
