Former Vice President Carolyn Smith has informed local Historic City News reporters that she has been named as “interim operations director” by the Board of Directors of the St. Augustine Humane Society.
Business hours at the Humane Society are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Closed Monday. The Humane Society is located at 1665 Old Moultrie Road in St. Augustine.
A new slate of officers and several new board members have been approved for 2011, Smith said.
Karen Lee Hogan was elected president; Julie Kurtz will serve as vice president; Cathy Upchurch will serve as secretary, and Dr. Ron Dixon will serve as treasurer.
New board members include Katherine Batenhorst, Bonnie Hayflick, James Pennington, and Leslie Sinclair.
Dr. Eric Searcy, the former president will remain with the organization as a board member and advisor.
“We are pleased to announce our slate of officers and board members to serve two-year terms,” said President Karen Lee Hogan. “The new leadership will help the community with crucial animal care issues including low cost spay and neuter programs, adoption and re-homing, and dog training along with a variety of resource and educational programs,” she said.
St. Augustine Humane Society is a non-profit organization which promotes responsible pet ownership and strengthens the human-animal bond through education and training. The organization works to reduce the relinquishment rate of pets to shelters through effective and affordable spay and neuter efforts and is a resource center for the citizens and animals in St. Johns County.
