The District 23 Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy investigation today on the body of 37 year-old Dorothy Monette Lightsey; who died while in the custody of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Lightsey, who was last known to live at 530 Colee Street in St. Augustine, and previously lived at 2641 Isabella Avenue, was arrested last Tuesday, March 15th, when St. Johns County deputies served her with a warrant for failure to appear.
Lightsey was being held on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school. On December 10, 2009, Lightsey allegedly sold several Schedule II narcotics to an undercover detective.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw, a Corrections Deputy witnessed Lightsey fall to the ground while in her cell at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday.
The Deputy called for the nurse and Rescue Personnel for further treatment, according to Kelshaw’s report. Lightsey was said to be “conscience and breathing” during transport to the hospital.
A determination of Lightsey’s exact cause of death is pending the outcome of today’s autopsy.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are saying today that, at the present time, there is no evidence of foul play.
