Letter: Give residents free parking too

Dear Editor:

It is a pleasure to see free parking provided by the city of St. Augustine for motorcycles during bike week. Even on weekdays I observed the positive impact on downtown businesses.

I would also support allowing free parking for residents midweek, off-season and/or non-holidays.

I believe this, too, would support downtown businesses when tourists are not otherwise in town.

It is, after all, local taxpayers who are paying for the garage and the purchase and installation of the parking meters.

I look forward to the day when such a proposition will be supported by at least two of my fellow city commissioners.
