Life in the creek comes to Fort Mose Sunday

Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose Historic State Park guide Terri Newmans announced to local Historic City News reporters in St. Augustine that the park would host “Life in the Creek: Salt Marshes of Fort Mose” on Sunday, November 20th.

The program will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a short introduction in the park’s visitor center located at 15 Fort Mose Trail in St. Augustine then will move outside.

“This program is fun for all ages,” Newmans told reporters. “Participants will be lead on a guided hike along the shores of the Fort Mose marsh.”

Topics presented will include natural communities, wildlife, plant identification and historical uses of the creek by the inhabitants of Fort Mose in the 1700s.

The cost of the program is included in the $2.00 per person entrance fee to the park’s visitor center. Children, six years old and under, are free.

Participants should plan to bring water, insect repellent and wear appropriate footwear. Binoculars are recommended but not required.
