The Women’s Refuge of St. Johns County was formed in 2004 and is a 501c(3) non-profit group and is funded by individuals, churches, fund raising activities and contributions from women in the program once they go to work.
The Women’s Refuge supports women who have been incarcerated or any woman who has been disrupted by trauma and spiritual dismay.
They accomplish this in a spiritual environment where trained Christians, using Scripture-based solutions, help women develop long-term goals and heal from spiritual and emotional wounds.
Local Civitan clubs meet a wide variety of needs in their communities, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.
The Civitan International Foundation continues this mission with a $20 million dollar commitment to its flagship project, the Civitan International Research Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Civitan is an international association of local community service clubs. Started in Birmingham, AL in 1917, Civitan has become one of the world’s leading volunteer service organizations, with more than 40,000 Men, women and youth in 24 countries.
