Historic City News has learned that the Honorable Judge Wendy Berger introduced St. Augustine Police Chief Loran Lueders as the keynote speaker at last night’s graduation ceremonies of the St. Johns County Adult Drug Court.
Chief Lueders spoke to the eight graduates about the importance of staying focused and using the new skill sets each have learned while in drug court so that they do not lose their way.
He urged them to be determined while staying drug free.
Lueders offered the graduates a personal story of being nineteen years-old and wanting to become a Jacksonville Police Officer.
“Heck”, Lueders said “that’s where I grew up”.
He had gotten word from an aunt and uncle visiting St. Augustine that the St. Augustine Police Department was hiring.
He said he swallowed a little pride and applied for the position.
The Chief said it must have been a good choice; he is still there after 30 years.
Chief Lueders congratulated the graduates and challenged them to assist each other as well as the participants still in drug court.
