Man beats and rapes victim leaving bar

Historic City News was notified by Officer Mark Samson that St. Augustine Police have arrested an illegal alien from Nicaragua after he attacked and sexually assaulted a woman — choking and beating her until she was rendered unconscious.

According to police, Edgar Antonio Talavera-Borges, a 34 year-old illegal whose address is unknown, attacked a patron after she left the Gigglin’ Gator on King Street in St. Augustine.

“The victim left the Gigglin’ Gator at closing time to make a phone call,” Samson told Historic City News. “When she finished the call, Talavera- Borges grabbed her; placing his hand over her mouth.”

Officers Michael Linksy and Michal Ochkie reported that Talavera- Borges dragged the victim into the woods, behind the Gigglin’ Gator, and then tore her clothes off.

Police say that the more the victim tried to scream, the more Talavera- Borges would hit her in the face or bite her as he was sexually assaulting her. At the point the victim was rendered unconscious, Talavera- Borges fled the scene.

Once the victim regained consciousness, she ran, naked, to the area of the post office where she was able to call for help. When police arrived, they sent the victim to Flagler Hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.

Police found the victim’s clothes and a motel key in the area behind the bar; they were able to match the key to a motel room at the Budget Inn on Anastasia Boulevard.

Officers Linksy and Ochkie located Talavera- Borges at the motel and arrested him on charges of Aggravated Battery — a second degree felony. After his first appearance hearing, bond was set at $500,000.00.

Detectives Charles Simpson and Cecilia Aiple questioned the victim the next day regarding the alleged sexual battery. Following that interview, Talavera- Borges was charges with the additional crime — a life felony on which no bond has been allowed.

Talavera- Borges has remained in custody at the St. Johns County Detention facility since June 10th; Immigration and Customs enforcement was notified and have placed an additional hold.
