Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming informed Historic City News that a Bunnell man who escaped from deputies Tuesday evening is, once again, in custody — this time at the Flagler County Jail.
Fleming said that 21 year-old Michael S. Testa turned himself in this morning then was taken into custody at 9:49 a.m. in the area near Classic Court in Palm Coast.
Testa told deputies that he has been staying in the woods.
“This was a peaceful situation where no one was injured,” Fleming said. “It is a hoped-for outcome and a wise decision on the part of Mr. Testa.”
Tuesday night deputies questioned Testa in connection with a Palm Coast home burglary that occurred on Zebulah Trail. Investigators believed Testa pawned property stolen during the burglary at a Bunnell pawn shop.
Deputies said that Testa was cooperating with them and was writing a statement while they completed their paperwork. According to the report, the Bunnell man was able to reach out of the patrol car, through a partially opened window, then able to reach the exterior door handle; thus opening the rear door.
He fled on foot and an air and ground search failed to locate him.
Testa had been charged with two counts of dealing in stolen property and one count of grand theft when deputies placed him into the back of a patrol car at around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. He now faces an additional felony charge of Escape.
