Philip Freimann announced to local Historic City News reporters that former Marine, Steve Rife, is staying in St. Augustine tonight as he makes his way on the second leg of his charity bicycle ride from San Diego, California to Augusta, Maine.
Rife left his home in Daytona this morning after a one week break. He left Mission Beach on January 2nd, and peddled over 3,100 miles to Daytona Beach. When he reaches his destination, he will have traveled over 4,600 miles to call attention to the same distance 50 Kenyans will walk for dirty water this week.
Along the route, Rife is available to speak to churches, service groups, or schools about his mission to deliver clean water to Gaitu, Kenya. Rife and Covenant UMC of Port Orange have committed to the goal of raising $75,000 for the mission.
