St. Johns County Traffic Homicide Investigator Joseph McGinnis reported to Historic City News that the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene of a fatal traffic collision at 6:14 p.m. this evening.
“The two-vehicle, head-on crash occurred about one mile east of Interstate 95 on CR-210 when a 2004 Chevy SUV crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming 2000 Ford SUV,” McGinnis said.
Names are being withheld pending family notification.
“The driver of the Ford was killed on impact,” McGinnis said. “The driver of the Chevy was taken by air to Shands Jacksonville with unspecified, severe injuries.”
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Although no charges have been filed at this time, the investigation is not yet concluded. McGinnis told Historic City News that alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
