Public Information Officer Debra Johnson told reporters with Historic City News that deputies in Flagler County, as well as K-9 units, were called in to canvass the area of Pine Crest Lane in Palm Coast; responding to an attempted burglary that occurred early this morning.
The resident, 27 year-old Jarrod Maxwell, called the Sheriff’s Office just after 2:30 a.m. to report the burglary attempt and that he had fired one shot at two men who were standing next to a vehicle parked in front of his home.
The Palm Coast man said two men had attempted to break into his vehicle while a third man attempted to enter the home through the back door.
According to the incident report, Maxwell walked out of his home and confronted the two men at the vehicle. One of the men put his hand in his pocket and began to walk toward him, Maxwell said. He told deputies that he ordered the man to “stop” — when the unknown man took two more steps toward him, Maxwell fired his gun.
Two of the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and the third fled on foot, according to Maxwell’s statement.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at (386) 313-4911 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477).
