Public Information Officer Debra Johnson told reporters with Historic City News that deputies in Flagler County have arrested a Palm Coast man who is suspected in three attempted robberies today – one in Flagler County and two in Volusia County.
Suspect Travis Wayne Adkins’ crime spree began around 10:46 a.m. when he walked into the Winn Dixie Pharmacy in Flagler Plaza on State Road 100. There he displayed a gun and demanded Oxycodone. However, he fled the scene when the pharmacist said the drug was not available. Adkins lists his address as 11 Ziegler Place.
After he failed to obtain the drugs, he is believed to have headed south to Volusia County where he is suspected of the attempted robbery of the CVS Store on Orange Camp Road in Deland around 11:33 a.m. The robber left empty handed again when the pharmacist told him he did not have Oxycodone. From there, it is suspected Adkins drove north to Holly Hill where he robbed a Walgreens on Nova Road.
Adkins then headed north on I-95 to Flagler County where deputies attempted to stop him after he exited onto S.R. 100 by placing stop sticks on the westbound lanes. His vehicle ran over the sticks and his two back tires were flattened.
He continued to drive the vehicle northbound on Belle Terre Parkway where he attempted to ram law enforcement patrol vehicles who were attempting a stop maneuver. His vehicle spun out of control in the area of 800 Belle Terre Parkway, just south of the Town Center Publix Shopping Center. As a result of his spin, Adkins’ vehicle struck two Flagler County Sheriff’s patrol vehicles, including a K-9 unit, and one Bunnell Police cruiser. No law enforcement officers were injured, but the suspect was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
“We are fortunate that no law enforcement personnel and no civilians were injured by this man’s endangerment to not just our community, but the communities in Volusia County,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.
Investigators recovered a gun from inside the vehicle, the note used in all three robbery attempts and Adkins was positively identified as the suspect in the Flagler County attempted robbery.
Charges from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office are attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery with a motor vehicle on a law enforcement officer and felony fleeing and eluding. The Bunnell Police Department is filing charges of felony fleeing and eluding and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
Additional charges are pending.
