Sheriff offers six week Citizens Academy

Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming told Historic City News reporters that his agency will be hosting a six-week long Citizen’s Academy program with classes beginning April 19th.

Academy students will be given the opportunity to interact with members of the Sheriff’s Office, ride along with road patrol deputies and during their training will get an “up close” look at the operations of the various divisions within the agency.

Demonstrations will be provided by the K-9 units, motorcycle units and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

“I encourage all of our residents to take advantage of this unique academy,” Fleming said. “Those who have completed the course have commented on how much information is provided — in just a few weeks.”

For those interested in participating, an enrollment form may be downloaded from the Sheriff’s Office website at www.myfcso.us and be returned by mail or dropped off at either the Sheriff’s Operations Center at 1001 Justice Lane in Bunnell, or, at the Robert E. McCarthy Substation at 17 North Old Kings Road in Palm Coast.
