Historic City News observed the last budget meeting by the Board of County Commissioners, when St. Johns County Sheriff David B. Shoar received praise from senior staff and commissioners as he announced that his 2012 budget would come in $5 million less than the current budget.
Payroll is the major component of the sheriff’s budget each year.
As part of his reorganization and with his commitment to “lean” management, he collapsed one division and placed it in another existing division.
The recent changes in assignment of responsibilities to members of the law enforcement division has resulted in pay increases for certain officers which has led to some heartburn among others whose position was not converted or whose accountability and workload was not increased.
Today we updated our records of Sheriff’s Office employees who earn at least $45,000 annually; together with their new assignment and new base salary. Medical benefits, retirement costs and paid time off is in addition to the employee’s salary.
