Posted on 12/12/201112/14/2011 By Historic City News

A 19-year old St. Johns County man was arrested on a host of charges, including grand theft auto, Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, identified as Chase Todd Cameron, 19, 104 Serenity Bay Boulevard in St. Augustine Beach, was charged with grand theft auto, burglary to an unoccupied structure, larceny, possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and resisting arrest without violence.

He was booked into the County Jail on bonds totaling $18,000.

The investigation began Sunday at 11:30 a.m. when deputies responded to a report of suspicious person at McDonalds 100 block of Ponte Vedra Pointe Boulevard.

Witnesses reported that a young male was observed walking back and forth from the restaurant to a Porsche with a Washington state tag.

When deputies arrived, the subject was leaving the restaurant and fled on foot when deputies approached.

At the same time the deputies learned that the Porsche was reported stolen to the St. Augustine Police Department and they chased the suspect into the Fairfield subdivision where they lost him on the west side of Burning Pine Court.

Deputy James Weaver spotted the suspect a short time later walking southbound in the 5200 block of Palm Valley Road and attempted to stop him. He fled on foot again westbound off Woody Creek Drive and was seen running into a gravel parking lot of the P.G.A.

Deputy Greg Mullenix along with his K-9 “Kobe” arrived and the suspect stopped when the deputy advised that he would deploy the K-9.

He was secured without further incident.

Cameron was positively identified by the initial responding deputies and the owner of the vehicle was notified of the recovery and gave deputies consent to search.

Deputies located all of the property that was reported stolen from a portable structure at a Christmas tree lot in the 800 block of A1A North that was discovered Sunday morning.

Forced entry was discovered to the structure and reported stolen was a cash register with a small amount of currency, a credit card machine, a toolbox with assorted tools, a corded drill and a box of candy canes.

Cameron was transported to Beaches Baptist Hospital for medical clearance and was then booked into the County Jail.
