St. Augustine Humane Society’s Operations Director, Carolyn Smith, told local Historic City News reporters that judging in their “Pin up Paws” calendar was concluded yesterday and the winners have been notified.
“Judging the calendar fundraiser was exciting and a challenge with 129 endearing photo submissions,” Smith said. “Calendars will be on sale later this month at the Humane Society located at 1665 Moultrie Road in St. Augustine, and they cost $10 each.”
Approximately 2,000 calendars will be ready for sale at the Hoots N Howls event on October 22nd — according to a pre-event announcement.
St. Augustine Humane Society staff and members of the Board of Directors joined with public voters to select the winning photos based on creativity and originality.
Top prizes include a professional photo shoot by St. Augustine –based photographers Addison Fitzgerald and Tom Eichling. Prizes to additional winners include items such gift certificates from the local Columbia Restaurant, free copies of the 2012 calendar, and commemorative paw print tiles by Westside Studio in St. Augustine.
“The effort demonstrated how much our local pet owners truly care about their pets,” Smith told Historic City News. “The finished calendar will be a permanent reminder of our favorite cats and dogs.”
The fundraiser netted $8,000, which, together with money from calendar sales, will be used to help prevent pet overpopulation through affordable spay neuter programs and to eliminate the relinquishment of pets to shelters.
