Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson Laurie Sanderson reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that work began this month on an improvement project to replace the high mast lighting at the interchange of Interstate 95 and SR-16.
American Lighting and Signalization, Inc. will replace the existing high mast lighting with galvanized light poles at a total cost of $607,551.35.
“The new galvanized poles are more cost-efficient to maintain than the weathered poles,” Sanderson told reporters. “Ensuring sufficient lighting throughout the interchange helps maintain the safety of travelers.”
Occasional lane closures may be necessary on the exit and entrance ramps on the Interstate as well as on SR-16 to accommodate construction and to support the safety of work crews and motorists.
Motorists are advised to be cautious while traveling through the area during construction. Project completion is scheduled for Spring 2012.
