St Augustine Police spokesman Mark Samson reported to Historic City News this morning, having now received the results of a blood alcohol examination of the driver, charges of driving under the influence have been filed against 58-year-old Theresa Diane Long in a crash that occurred on July 4 on the east end of the Bridge of Lions.
Long, who resides at 162 Martin Luther King Avenue in St Augustine, tested positive for a blood alcohol content of 0.125 – the maximum legal limit for blood alcohol content is 0.08 percent.
“The only injury in this crash was the driver,” Samson told reporters. “This case could have been much worse, just fifteen minutes before, the fireworks ended and the crowd had dispersed.”
The crime lab of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted the forensic examination of the blood evidence in this case, according to Samson.
“Long has been convicted of multiple counts of Driving Under the Influence since 1983,” Samson told Historic City News.
