Chief Derek Fraser informed local Historic City News reporters that firefighters from the City of Bunnell have been training with Flagler County’s Fire Flight helicopter utilizing a new portable dip tank in preparation for the upcoming wildfire season.
The Bunnell Fire Department recently purchased the tank with the assistance of a 50 % matching grant from Florida Department of Agriculture, Department of Forestry, and Volunteer Fire Assistance.
“The 5,000-gallon rigid-frame portable dip tank can be easily transported and assembled by two firefighters in less than fifteen minutes,” Chief Fraser told Historic City News.
The tank will be deployed close to a wildfire where water sources for aerial operations are limited.
Chief Fraser predicts that having the new tank at our disposal will cut the turnaround time down considerably for aerial bucket drops and will allow the aerial resources to put more water on the fire in a shorter period.
