Yesterday was the last Christmas for St Augustine resident Trevor Austin Leonardi, who had just turned 25 less than two weeks before, and his wife, 28-year-old Jennifer Ann Roos-Leonardi; they were killed in a tragic Christmas evening crash on Anastasia Island.
According to St Augustine Police reports of the collision, at about 5:30 p.m. last night, the Leonardi’s were traveling northbound on SR-A1A. When they reached State Park Road at Red Cox Road, Trevor Leonardi lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into the trees in front of St Augustine Fire Station #2.
Since the fire station was first built in 1958, it has seen its share of traffic fatalities; many in the same clump of trees where the Leonardi’s lost their lives.
The incident report reveals that although the passenger, Jennifer Leonardi, was wearing her seatbelt, her husband, the driver of the 2007 Black Nissan Titan, was not. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. Both occupants died at the scene.
St Augustine Police Traffic-Homicide Investigator Chris Miller is continuing his investigation into the cause of the crash. There is no word, at this time, as to whether or not alcohol contributed to the collision.
