Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum is Break Room topic

Paul K Williamson, Public Affairs Director for the City of St Augustine and part-time Flagler College Radio host, told Historic City News that Catherine Culver, Operations Manager for the Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum, is the guest this week on his 15-minute program, “The Break Room”.

The program offers listeners a behind-the scenes look at the workings of city government through interviews with people key in the city’s day-to-day operations. The Break Room airs on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and is repeated on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

“The show is appropriately named,” Williamson said. “Whether you are working in an office cubicle, on a factory floor, or along the aisles of a retail store, time spent in the break room is usually a quiet time, away from pressure, away from work routines and often a place where co-workers can converse in a relaxed environment.”

Williamson told reporters that Culver brings an exciting update on the busy school tour season that is just now concluding, the very successful monthly Colonial Market, and other events keeping the museum busy.

Wanting listeners, at some point in the program, to say, “I didn’t know that,” Williamson explained his format by saying, “There are always the big issues that gain a lot of media attention, but we wanted to focus on the day-in and day-out working of local government.”

Dan McCook, WFCF station manager, reports that since the program started airing in late February 2010, guests have included over fifty division supervisors, department managers and crew leaders from every sector of city staff.

Williamson, now in his 12th year as Public Affairs Director, is a 1977 graduate of Flagler College, and says he is proud of this opportunity.
