Historic City News readers have been invited by Father Tom Willis, the rector of the Cathedral Basilica of St Augustine, to celebrate “Compline by Candlelight” on Saturday, November 17 at 8:30 p.m. as part of the “Nights of Lights” festivities.
The Schola Cantorae of the Cathedral, under the direction of Shannon McKay, will provide music for the liturgy. They will also assist in the chanting of the psalms that are the central part of the Compline service.
“We love being able to share the beauty of the Cathedral by candlelight,” Father Tom said. “And, coupled with the chanting of beautiful music, it becomes a fitting way for people to get in the spirit of the holidays as our City begins its annual Nights of Lights festivities.”
Compline is more popularly known as Night Prayer and is the Church’s final liturgical service in a given day. It is part of the traditional rites of many Christian religions including Catholic, Orthodox, Episcopalian and Lutheran.
