Community Affairs officer, Corporal Catherine Payne, informed Historic City News that this morning, the St Johns County Traffic Homicide Section responded to the scene of a car-vs-pedestrian crash; the victim remains hospitalized in serious, but stable, condition.
An early-morning jogger, identified as 40-year-old Valerie S Perry of Charlotte, North Carolina, was reportedly jogging in the 80-block of Ponte Vedra Boulevard when she was struck by a 2001 Lexus SUV.
Both the Perry and 51-year-old William W Driscoll of Jacksonville, the driver of the Lexus, were traveling northbound in the roadway when the crash occurred — about 5:50 a.m.
Perry was stabilized at the scene for transportation to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
“An investigation into the factors of the crash continues,” Payne told reporters. No information was provided regarding charges in this case.
