Construction to boardwalk at Fort Matanzas

Posted on 02/12/201202/17/2012 By Historic City News

Fred Shott reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that the ocean side boardwalk at Fort Matanzas National Monument is under renovation to replace wooden decking and handrails — a project that is estimated to be ongoing over the next four months.

Repairs will begin at 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday and the parking area will be closed to traffic each day during hours of construction.

For readers accessing the parking area at other times, be aware that a 20-yard dumpster will be stationed in the lot throughout the duration of the project.

“Please use caution when entering and departing the boardwalk and parking area,” Shott told reporters. “A weekly schedule of construction will be posted at the beginning of the boardwalk to identify the work schedule.”

Shott said that the boardwalk will be open on weekends for public use and that it will be made “safe and secured for pedestrian use” at the close of each workday.
