Craig Miller addresses Republican Women

Historic City News editor Michael Gold and about 25 members and guests of the Republican Women’s Club of St. Johns County listened to Craig Miller, Congressional Candidate for District 6, at their luncheon-meeting held yesterday at TGI Friday’s.

After his twenty-minute presentation, questions for the candidate continued from the audience for another twenty minutes through the meal service. Members seemed intent on hearing specifics about Miller’s plans for St Johns County as the newly apportioned congressional district is established.

Miller commented that he didn’t want to “say anything bad about John Mica”, but he iterated a few positions on which he holds different opinions — citing rail transportation and government’s inability to adopt policies that create private sector jobs.

When asked about re-establishing a congressional office in St Augustine if he is “sent to Washington”, he said that the position includes a small administrative budget. Mica was the first US Congressman to establish a full-time, manned office locally. “I would like to have an office, at least in each of the counties in the district,” Miller replied.

Miller’s talking points were his support, from and for, Herman Cain, moving to a “consumption-based” federal tax system, fighting illegal immigration, entitlement program reforms, and “conservative” values.

The candidate is married with three grown children and lives in Ormond Beach. Miller declared that he is a Roman Catholic, is anti-abortion and does not support gay marriage. He does support the “war on terrorism” and 2nd Amendment rights of individuals to arm themselves. He is a Vietnam War veteran who had been stationed at Cam Rahn Bay in South Vietnam. Miller made his career in the restaurant business — he served as President of Pizzeria Uno and later as CEO of Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
