Gwendolyn Duncan, the 40th ACCORD, Inc., President, informed Historic City News local reporters that the recent Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event in St Augustine was a wonderful success.
Dozens came out to view “Dare Not Walk Alone”, the documentary by Jeremy Dean that was screened at the Willie Galimore Community Center during the day’s activities.
Following the documentary, civil rights activists Janie Price, George Williams, Audrey Willis, and Laura Charles gave personal accounts of their experiences during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement and Dr. King’s struggle for freedom in the Nation’s Oldest City.
“Thanks for sponsoring this event,” St Johns County public school teacher, Sonee Carswell, said. “It was an eye opener for my granddaughters.”
Among the many guests in attendance, Duncan mentioned two from Pennsylvania, Bobbi Leland and Beth Levenbach, who generously sponsored an ACCORD Freedom Trail Marker, which can be seen at 76 Washington Street.
Duncan extended her gratitude to volunteers Theresa Segal, Dawn Silverio, June Conway, Priscilla Duncan, Richard Duncan, Larry Forrest, Ella Johnson, Mary Richard, Audrey Willis, James Allen, George Henry Williams, Elizabeth Duncan, Cora Tyson, Marcus Ginn, and Dalonja Duncan for giving of their time and talents to make the event a success.
