St Augustine police spokesman Mark Samson reported to Historic City News that investigators still do not know the identity of a man found floating in the water in Salt Run Sunday morning.
A group of kayakers spotted the dead body in the water near the St Augustine Inlet, Samson told reporters. “Officers pulled the black male out of the water at about 11:00 a.m.”
According to the incident report, the body has been transported to the St Augustine office of District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic, for autopsy.
Samson indicated that he believed the body to have been under water for at least 24 hours, therefore, police are investigating the suspicious discovery as a homicide.
It will be several days before toxicology reports will be available, however, the medical examiner may release preliminary results as to the manner and cause of death before then.
