Multiple agencies are investigating the cause of a motor vehicle collision that occurred just before 6:00 a.m. this morning in the 2600 block of Usina Road in St Augustine, according to reports coming in to Historic City News from public safety sources.
The fatal car crash left one person dead; there were no other passengers in the vehicle which firefighters found “fully involved” in flames upon their arrival.
St Johns County Sheriff’s Sergeant Charles E. Mulligan told Historic City News that no foul play is suspected, however, the crime scene is being treated as any other traffic homicide at this time.
“Detectives are investigating the crash dynamics as well as the origin and cause of the fire,” Mulligan told reporters. “Traffic Homicide investigators are reconstructing the collision and that information will be released as soon as it becomes available.”
The District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic, has been called in to identify the driver of the vehicle and to establish the cause of death. The Office of the State Fire Marshal and St Johns County Fire Rescue officials are investigating, as well.
There were no injuries reported to emergency personnel working to extinguish the fire, extract the driver, or otherwise during this incident.
