FHP Director warns that troopers are out in full force

Florida Highway Patrol Director, Colonel David Brierton, announced to Historic City News that our readers traveling throughout Troop “G”, which includes all of St Augustine and St Johns County, should expect to see troupers out “in full force” during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

“Troopers will be on the lookout for aggressive driving, speeding, red light running and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs to make the roadways as safe as possible for weekend travelers,” said Colonel Brierton.

All uniformed FHP personnel, including those normally assigned to administrative duties, will be patrolling interstates and other major state roads throughout the four-day holiday period which began yesterday and extends through midnight May 28.

FHP Auxiliary and Reserve troopers will volunteer to augment the Patrol’s forces during the holiday enforcement period, too. This strategy will increase the Patrol’s presence on major arteries throughout Florida in an effort to deter traffic violators and to provide enhanced service to motorists who break down while traveling or need other assistance.
