Florida Living History representative Davis Walker reported to Historic City News that in preparation for Florida’s 500th anniversary in 2013, the Company of Juan Ponce de León would offer its annual heritage Event – “This Other World” on Saturday, March 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum.
The living-history event and lecture series, Ponce de León and the Founding of Florida, commemorates the April 3, 1513 landing of the “First Fleet” on the east coast of Florida.
Historic City News readers are welcome to attend, without charge, when the historical re-enactors portray passengers and crew – white, black, Native American; male and female; soldier and sailor; slave and free – who became the first documented Europeans and Africans to set foot on what is now the continental United States.
Lectures on Ponce de León and his world will take place in the auditorium of the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum. Details on Event activities and the lectures will be forthcoming.
Ample, free parking is available onsite.
This heritage Event is sponsored by the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum and Florida Living History, Inc.; a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the support of living history activities, events, and portrayals related to the history of colonial Florida. Additional support has been provided, in part, through the generosity of NTE Energy, LLC with promotional consideration provided by Historic City News.
