Next weekend, September 7-9, the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park reported to Historic City News that they would commemorate the 1565 founding of St Augustine by Pedro Menendez de Aviles; on the original site where Colonial European America was established.
“St Augustine was colonized by Spanish explorers in 1565,” General Manager John Stavely told reporters. “It was 55-years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth and 42-years before the founding of the English colony at Jamestown.”
