A bicyclist in Palm Valley, who investigators tell Historic City News collided with a semi-truck earlier this afternoon, was transported by air ambulance to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with serious injuries; according to a report from Sheriff’s Corporal Catherine Payne.
Traffic homicide investigators reported from the scene that the semi-truck was stationary in the middle of the roadway. The cyclist, identified as 50-year old Cecilia Collins, was wearing her helmet at the time she collided into the rear of the stopped vehicle.
The cause of the crash, which occurred in the area of North Roscoe Boulevard and Ponte Vedra Road, is still under investigation.
The condition of the bicyclist was upgraded to “serious, but non-life threatening” at 5:30 today.
