Grace United Methodist scholarship winners perform

Meredith A. Rhein, a Theatre Arts major and one of five students from Flagler College awarded a music intern scholarship from Grace United Methodist Church, announced to Historic City News that this year’s scholarship winners will team up to put on a musical review of love songs — past and present.

The music program, entitled “Constant Love”, will take place on March 10th at 3:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church located at 8 Carrera Street in beautiful downtown St Augustine.

“We want to share with the community our love for music and enjoy an afternoon of collaboration between Flagler College students and Grace United Methodist Church,” said soprano, Kia Miller.

The church began the music internship program in 2008; and, each school year, five students from Flagler College are awarded a scholarship.

“It has been a fruitful endeavor for both the College and the congregation of Grace United Methodist Church,” Rhein told Historic City News.

Auditions for interested students are offered at the beginning of each academic period.

Admission to the performance is free, but a love offering will be taken to support further development of the program.

This year’s scholarship winners included Jay Wiggins, Kia Miller, Meredith Rhein, Megan Kovak and Dakota Lawrence.

“Constant Love” features both secular and religious music and will be performed by the church’s resident scholarship winners.

The program will feature musical pieces from hit Broadway musicals, popular Gershwin favorites and a special rendition of “How great thou art”.
