Guest Column: Be ready for General Election
Vicky Oakes
Supervisor of Elections
St Johns County, FL
The Primary Election is behind us now and we are already looking forward to and preparing for the November 6 General Election – it is only a few weeks away.
It is not too early to begin preparing for the General Election because the November ballot will be long — there are 11 Constitutional Amendments, and, for the first time, we will have a 2-page, double sided ballot.
Visit our website, www.votesjc.com and find a link to the full text of each amendment on the Florida Division of Elections website. Under “What’s New”, you can find a link to printable formats of the proposed amendments.
Have you checked your voter status?
While you are on our website, you can verify your voter record to determine if you are properly registered to vote in the November election, if your voter information is correct, and the location of your precinct and voting place.
Click on “Voter Lookup” to verify your record or call the Elections Office at (904) 823-2238.
As a reminder – October 9, 2012 is the last day to register to vote for the General Election. Voter registration applications are available on our website. You must print out the application, sign and mail to the office.
Applications must be postmarked by October 9th if you wish to vote in the General Election. You can also register to vote at the Driver’s License Office at the Julington Creek Annex and any Public Library.
Since our ballots will be very long for the General Election, voters may wish to Vote by Mail and vote in the comfort of your home.
If your address on file with our office is correct, you can request an absentee ballot today. Ballots are available to all registered voters. To request your absentee ballot, contact the Elections Office.
All voted ballots must be received in the Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 7 PM Election Day.
If you have any questions or need assistance please give us a call. My staff and I look forward to serving you.
