Traffic Homicide Investigator J.D. “Mac” McGinnis reported to Historic City News that he responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash that sent a motorcycle rider to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The cause of the collision that occurred in the area of Fruit Cove Forest Road, is still under investigation; however, McGinnis believes the rider was westbound and failed to negotiate a curve — then ran off the roadway.
Details were released to Historic City News by St Johns County Sheriff Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.
“The victim was not wearing a helmet,” Kelshaw said. “He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center Trauma Unit with life threatening injuries.”
The amount of damage to the 2003 Harley Davidson Motorcycle was not included in the investigator’s report; filed at 2:02 a.m. this morning. The rider’s identify is being withheld pending notification of his family.
