Poll: Gingrich and Romney in dead heat

St Augustine pollster and former Republican State Committeeman from St Johns County, Jon Woodard, reported to Historic City News the results of his recent Dixie Strategies – First Coast News poll showing that if Tuesday’s election were held today, Gingrich and Romney could tie.

The poll results were released by Dixie Strategies yesterday from a telephone poll Woodard said was conducted January 23-25, 2012.

According to the published results, Newt Gingrich leads over Mitt Romney statewide — but his lead is well within the poll’s 1.93 percent margin of error. Polling included 2,567 Republicans throughout the state who were determined to be “likely voters” in the January 31st Primary.

Asked, “If the Republican Presidential Primary were held today, for whom would you vote?”

35.46 percent selected Gingrich
35.08 percent selected Romney

9.38 percent selected Rick Santorum
7.42 percent selected Ron Paul

8.74 percent said they were “undecided”
3.93 percent said “someone else”
