St Johns County reported to Historic City News that readers will experience some inconvenience as a popular destination for fishermen and beachgoers receives a series of upgrades following the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
This project will improve existing facilities including restrooms, parking area and Splash Park that are used year-round. Access to the Pier Store, open between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., will be enhanced.
The following improvements are included in the project:
• New Turtle Friendly and Energy Efficient Lights installed throughout the parking area to improve the visibility and safety of the parking area year round
• Structural Improvements to the Pier deck and pilings to increase the life span and aesthetics of the pier
• Construction of new restrooms and an upgrade of existing restroom facilities at Pier Park increasing the number of available restroom facilities for visitors to Splash Park, the Pier and the beach
These upgrades will require a temporary closure to portions of the parking area and restricted access to the Fishing Pier beginning on July 9, 2012 and lasting through the middle of August.
Signs will be posted communicating the closures throughout the project.
Temporary closures to the beach walkover will continue periodically and temporary closures to portions of the Pier parking area will be required to allow for staging and access for the construction crews.
