Saturday installation will honor Christian Schroom

The Velo Fest Community Initiative reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that they will be installing a Ghost Bike in memory of Christian Schroom at the corner of Arredondo and Anastasia Boulevard on Saturday, November 24th at 3:00 p.m.

The bike was donated by Russell Coffee Company and prepared by Velo Fest to be installed at the site where Schroom was killed earlier this week by a hit-and-run driver.

“We invite anyone available to please come and show your support of St Augustine and St Johns County as safer place to travel,” Heather Neville told Historic City News. “Whether you arrive by car, bike, or your own two legs, we encourage your support.”

According to a report from an area business, surveillance video of the location shows that two separate vehicles struck the victim on Anastasia Boulevard just after midnight. Police and investigators are canvassing neighborhoods and analyzing evidence collected at the scene.

According to the victim’s nephew, Christian absolutely loved getting to see the city from his bicycle.

“We hope that this bicycle inspires a culture that embraces the safety of all pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and serves as a reminder of how much of a privilege and responsibility we have as we use our roads,” Neville said. “When law enforcement identifies those responsible for this tragedy, we are hoping family and friends will find some closure; a small comfort other families, like the Wrigley’s, were never afforded.”

Velo Fest Community Initiative is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
