Community Affairs Corporal Catherine Payne informed Historic City News reporters in St Augustine that the investigation into the murder of a black man in a homeless camp at the north county line near Target has resulted in the questioning of persons of interest in the crime.
The Jacksonville Beach Police Department contacted the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office Sunday evening to report the gruesome discovery of the body in a wooded area close to the 300 block of Marsh Landing Parkway in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The cause of the victim’s death will be determined by District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic; following completion of his post-mortem investigation of the remains.
When detectives responded to the scene, just after 4:30 p.m., Payne told reporters that foul-play “was immediately determined” and that there were multiple suspects involved.
Witnesses have come forward and they are being questioned about the events that led up to the attack.
Once the family has been notified of his death, Historic City News will report the identities of the victim and his alleged assailants.
