A high speed chase reported to Historic City News today landed two St Augustine residents in jail who law enforcement authorities believe may be connected to as many as two dozen burglaries in a three-county area during the last six months.
The man and woman were wanted in connection with a home burglary that occurred on October 5 at a home on Covington Lane in Palm Coast. St Johns County detectives are working with investigators from Flagler County and Volusia County to develop evidence that connects the two to the additional crimes.
Around noon today, Flagler deputies observed a black SUV on North Parkview Drive in Palm Coast that matched the description of the SUV seen in surveillance video of the Covington Lane burglary.
When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and attempted to elude them; leading a chase from Parkview Drive onto Belle Terre Parkway, leading north to Cypress Point Parkway as far as Walmart, to Cypress Edge Drive, and then onto Palm Coast Parkway eastbound, until they reached the northbound ramp to I-95.
At one point, deputies attempted to deploy stop sticks on Cypress Edge Drive, causing damage to the two tires on the driver’s side. The SUV continued to travel on the Interstate at about 70 miles-per-hour on two rims and two tires.
Flagler County’s Fire-flight assisted officers by providing the location of the vehicle from an aerial view. Florida Highway Patrol troopers and St Johns County Sheriff’s deputies joined the chase when the vehicle left I-95 and turned onto US-1 northbound.
Finally, after an eastbound diversion onto SR-206, doubling back to US-1 and resuming north towards St Augustine, St Johns County Sheriff’s deputies were able to halt the vehicle by deploying additional stop sticks.
Taken into custody were 36-year-old William Allen Fulkerson who resides at 2125 Woodstork Ave in St Augustine and 28-year-old Carmen Mae Kilgore, who provided an address of 201 Cecelia Ct in St Augustine.
Both are facing additional charges.
