When the emergency call came in shortly before 10:00 p.m. last night, responding fire rescue units were prepared for casualties from a car crash into an occupied home, but were pleased to report only minor injuries sustained to the driver and occupants.
Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies said when they arrived, they found a car inside the bedroom of the home at 15 Cochise Court in Palm Coast where resident Nancy Deans, was sleeping.
Florida Highway Patrol was notified and is in charge of the investigation, however, deputies reported that it appeared the driver failed to negotiate a curve on Cochise Court; causing her vehicle to leave the roadway, strike the residence and crash through the bedroom wall.
Debris from the impact of the crash was sent some 25-feet further in to the house, according to the incident report.
The driver, 17 year-old Marie Barletta, 15 Farmdale Lane in Palm Coast, along with the resident, remarkably received only minor injuries — no one was transported to the local hospital.
A Palm Coast building official responded to the scene and determined the bedroom was unsafe. The electrical circuit breaker to the room was shut off due to exposed wires.
“Everyone involved is extremely lucky not to have suffered significant injuries,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.
