Prior to a presentation before the St Augustine City Commission, Historic City News has learned that the American Indian Movement of Florida, Ancient Trees, and others, will encircle Castillo de San Marcos as part of a demonstration titled, “Do Something Right for Once”.
Ruby A. Beaulieu, Executive Director of American Indian Movement of Florida, says that supporters will speak to the public and pass out flyers at the fort grounds; then they intend to join Bobby C. Billie, a Clan Leader and Spiritual Leader, as he presents “Other Side of Archaeology” before the St Augustine City Commission.
Ancient Trees co-founder, Shannon Larsen, explained that Billie is a member of the Council of the Original Miccosukee Simanolee Nation Aboriginal Peoples.
If you are planning to attend the protest, meet at Castillo de San Marcos near the entrance to the fort and prison; close to the ticket booth on Monday, January 28, at 3:00 p.m. — look for the “Do Something Right for Once” sign.
If you are planning to attend the regular St Augustine City Commission meeting that follows, the meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
