St Augustine Railway Historical Society invited Historic City News readers to attend their next regular monthly meeting being held on Thursday, January 24, 2013.
Mark Frazier, who called next week’s meeting, says that this meeting will determine the direction that the group takes in the future; so, he wants to urge all those interested, members or non-members, to attend if at all possible.
“There are many new developments since our last meeting,” Frazier told Historic City News. “We will be making plans for a big event in February.”
The January meeting will convene at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Inn located at 900 North Ponce De Leon Boulevard in St Augustine. The meeting will conclude at 9:00 p.m.
The organization was formed by Michael Gold with assistance from Historic City News and several local railroad enthusiasts who are dedicated to the promotion of the history of the Florida East Coast Railway and its influence on the City of St Augustine.
The “Jacksonville, St Augustine and Halifax River Railway”, incorporated February 28, 1881, merged with “Jacksonville, St Augustine and Indian River Railroad” on October 31, 1892. On September 13, 1895, the latter was renamed “Florida East Coast Railway” which still exists.
